Centering & Listening: An Activation

For this piece, I wanted to follow-up on the question that ended the last article on Awakening to Fullness: What would change if you lived today not as someone who lacks, but as someone who is already full in Him?

I want to invite you to bring the Lord into this question. I believe there are some powerful things he can reveal to your heart here.

Here’s what I would encourage you to do: Take some time to be with the Lord. 30 to 40 minutes might be enough for this. Take the time to do some centering prayer followed by some quick journaling. If you’re not familiar with centering prayer, it’s about anchoring your mind to the indwelling presence of God. Like a normal meditative practice, you can start by focusing on your breathing (and not trying to fight invasive thoughts; but simply returning to your breathing as a center whenever you realize you’re distracted. Don’t get mad at being distracted, just keep coming back to the movement of your breathing).

As you do this, begin think about the reality that Christ dwells within you. Don’t overanalyze this. Just accept it.

Christ is within.

Always.

Right now.

Even if I don’t feel it.

Christ is within.

As the silence continues, return to this thought like you would return to your own breathing.

You may want to set a timer for 15 or 20 minutes to do this in order to help you let go and totally immerse yourself in the centering process.

Once the timer stops—or you think you’ve disengaged enough from the outside world—go back to the question. Ask the Lord the question directly: What would change if I lived today not as someone who lacks, but as someone who is already full in You?

Listen, and write down what comes to mind. Don’t question it. Just let the writing flow.

Then ask this:

Lord, what else do you want to show me about the fullness I already have?

Listen, and write again. Perhaps only 10 minutes is needed for this part, but you may want to linger with the Lord longer to continue the dialogue with him.

I truly believe he will show you amazing things…
