Giving away $62 million & the robotic enhancement of the brain
A diamond for a nation
One of the most beautiful scenes in modern cinema is from the movie “Blood Diamond.” It is the scene where the father of a boy who’s been kidnapped and forced to join a guerrilla army (and made to do horrible things) confronts his brainwashed son who is pointing a weapon at him. The father tells his boy how much he loves him and affirms his son’s true identity, bringing the boy to tears and a warm embrace. The movie is a fictional story of redemption which is based on real events in the African nation of Sierra Leone, which has been tragically wounded by corruption within the diamond industry. (Watch the scene here)
This week, the Father’s heart was put on display in Sierra Leone when a pastor discovered a diamond that is believed to be worth $62 million. While people have done horrible things when discovering diamonds just a fraction of this size, this pastor decided to totally give it away. He publicly handed it over to the nation’s president with the sole purpose of strengthening the struggling nation’s economy.
Let’s believe for the true diamond of grace and glory within Sierra Leone to shine forth and for more selfless examples of love to be manifested through people like this pastor.
Computerized brains
Before you read the following and get freaked out, you may want to go back to last week’s article on technology for some heavenly perspective and encouragement. In fact this story, which was just made public a few days ago, is a perfect follow-up to last week’s article…
Elon Musk, the wildly brilliant CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has just announced that somewhere in his busy schedule he is finding time to launch a new start-up company; one that will seek to enhance the human brain with computerized technology. (In theory, it’s technology that will be able to upload thoughts and concepts into people’s neural passageways).
The company is obviously in the very early stages of this. Their work will begin with a total focus on medical intervention (specifically in helping people with brain diseases such as dementia). But there is a plan for this to impact the brains of all humanity in order that we can keep up with artificial intelligence … and we’ll leave it at that for now ; )
