This week…
A brief word about Lady Gaga and Kim Walker-Smith
God is on our side
This month, pop-sensation and cultural icon Lady Gaga, as well as anointed worship leader Kim Walker-Smith, both released new music. Gaga debuted a new song at Coachella that is one of those I’m-singing-directly-to-God-but-you’re-not-supposed-to-know-unless-you-know-my-heart kind of songs that so frequently come out of the Pop genre. In the song she sings to the One who will always be right by her side and will heal her with love. The fact that she released the song on Good Friday/Easter weekend only furthers this sentiment. The song is called “The Cure.”
Kim Walker-Smith released her new album called “On My Side.” Like Gaga, she sings about God being on her side in the title track. This is not a coincidence, but rather the voice of the Lord speaking the same message in two totally different realms and to two different audiences. There is a move of healing and love through Walker-Smith and Gaga’s music. Walker-Smith’s music is sure to encourage many within the Church world. Gaga’s song is sure to release hope and peace to many of her fans.
To me, Gaga and Walker-Smith are equally prophets in their own rights. They are both singing about an age to come that is here even now. It is the age of love, healing, and joy. We are blessed to have these two with us in this time. With many questions of war and political strife, the songs of hope are more important than ever.
