The Song

Our Father who art in heaven… hallowed by thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done. On the earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive our trespasses, as we forgive those who have trespassed against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

A lot of the world knows this prayer well. It speaks about what our approach should be when we go to pray before God.

I have to wonder something though.

What happens when we can’t find the words to speak, let alone pray?

Sometimes, even when we have the right heart, and the right approach in prayer….

There are some things that we can’t even begin to articulate.

Most of the time, when we go before God, it is to present a big thing before him.

He is no stranger to “umms” and “ughs” of the frustration that comes with living and difficulty.

In this place, which I have been in many times, a treasure is forgotten.

We don’t always have to speak every need, and every want to God.

I feel often… he speaks and prays for us.

Paul knew this very well.

In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered.”

Romans 8:26, WEB

He intercedes for us.

He speaks in direct emotion to the groanings of our souls.

He even sings to the soul.

“Yahweh, your God, is in the midst of you, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will calm you in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17, WEB

Often… the answer to what we are praying for is the melody of true comfort and compassion that he avails himself as for us.

Along with the daily bread and miracles that we need for the day to be new again.

“If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and will receive you to myself; that where I am, you may be there also.”

John 14:3, WEB

He prayed that we would be where he is, and I feel it wasn’t just for us to be where he is physically, but also where he is in his heart, mind, soul, and strength.

His soul sings hope and joy over our souls.

His song is also his prayer for us.

Genesis 1 is written as a song in the Hebrew. You could say that it is creative love in motion.

His banner over us is love.

How fitting.

It is one of hope.

It is one of joy.

It is one of unity and bond.

His prayer is for our peace.

His song is for our peace.

His prayer contains all of the lyrics to the song of his heart.

“Not for these only do I pray (his disciples), but for those also who believe in me through their word, that they may all be one; even as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us; that the world may believe that you sent me.”

John 17:20-21, WEB

We can join God in prayer for us. In accepting the desires of his heart for us from the place of openness.

We can join God in song for us, with the tones of his heart reverberating within our souls in unison.

He is not our enemy.

He is the persona and living representation of our best prayers.

He is not our suppressor.

He is the song that our hearts sing in hope.

Shall we join him in song in prayer?

Peace.
